Bug!
This bug is sitting on Amelia's sliding glass door (teasing the cats) and cleaning his feet! You can't see it in the picture, but he has his back left leg up at his mouth! It was AWESOME to watch! He went through all his legs, with his little mouth parts moving like miniature tentacles. I think he's a katydid and I just wish I had my bug book with me, so I could look him up!

K-C-C-Karma strikes again!
What do you say after it keeps happening over and over again? I'm never going to drive ANYWHERE EVER AGAIN! But inevitably someone lets me into a car on a trip and blamo! Next thing we know, a deer is exploding on the freeway.
This time was probably the scariest experience of my life. Amelia and me were driving to Virginia for work, I'm in the middle of texting a friend, when I hear Amelia gasp, or say "Oh," or something. I look up and a deer is jumping in front of our car. I let out a bloodcurdling scream (and it was) before we even hit him and then closed my eyes for the impact, until I realized we weren't careening off the road, when I open my eyes again and watch as the deer is disintegrating into a million pieces.
Amelia pulled over, I fell into a fit of hysterics -- relief, disbelief, amazement, sorrow (for the stupid deer, if you can believe it), horror, laughter, relief relief relief. The first thing I can think of to say is, "I didn't know I could scream that loudly..." I laugh every time I think about it!
Fortunately the car wasn't damaged beyond repair, the deer wasn't horribly large, though big enough to bust up the headlight, break up part of the front bumper, and dent the hood. We've made it to Virginia (sooner than we expected, considering we hit a deer) and I believe I'm still too wired to fall asleep. WE HIT A DEER!

Fun Times
Here are some of my favorite pictures from so far in South Carolina!
This is me at the Atlantic Ocean! I've been from sea to shining sea! We saw dolphins while we were here, it was AWESOME!
This is at Fort Sumpter. Before we got off our ferry we were warned not to put anything or anybody in the cannons, because it's easy to get in, hard to get out. It's hard to resist trying something with such an explicit warning!
Me and the p's on the ferry ride to Fort Sumpter! It was cold! And my first time on a boat big enough to hold more than four people.
At the Congaree National Park. Not what I expected a swamp to look like. We saw some turtles, spiders (we watched one spin its web!), a pelican, and a very peaceful lake. Luckily, no snakes falling from the trees onto our heads!
The University of South Carolina Gamecocks stadium!
The men being men on the ferry ride back.
All of us at Fort Sumpter.
This hole was pitch-black and creepy and haunted with civil war soldiers who were bricked in alive. And it was a little freaky.

New Germ Pool
I've been living here in South Carolina for two and a half weeks and I really have been meaning to update the blogo. But only after a few days of being here I got a cold. It started with a really nasty sore throat and then the cogested runny nose came and of course I got a cough. Then a week ago I started having a sore throat again, but it was less intense than the cold one. So I was kinda thinking maybe I got the cold that Tylie had, because Amelia and me were thinking hers was different than ours. But on Thursday I was feeling really gross and I was having cold chills. Amelia got on the Internet and looked up symptoms for the swine flu, and I had most of them. So I went to the doctor and he told me I had the flu. I always thought the flu was throwing up and feeling nauseous, but I didn't feel nauseous until I took that stupid tamiflu stuff that the doctor prescribed. So I'm feeling a little better now, but I have a really bad cough, and I get cough attacks, so depending on how I am tomorrow I'm gonna go to the doctor again to see if I have bronchitis on top of the flu on top of my cold. Cross your fingers.

books
I've been having a hard time reading books lately. It's weird, because I want to read these books, but I didn't have enough concentration or something. But I did manage to finish a few.
Violet Wings by Victoria Hanley. This book was easy to read, and it has a good story, I think, but it's going to be a series and... now I probably have to wait years before I can read the next one. And it mostly just introduces readers to the new world she's created, etc. So I recommend waiting to read it until the next one comes out.
Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by whoever. It was good. I loved it all the way through, until the very very end. I was convinced that all the signs in the book were pointing toward the characters figuring out what the curse was and solving it and there wouldn't be sea monsters anymore. And... no. And I was very disappointed with that. So don't have that expectation and I'm sure you'll love the book! I thought it was very fun and funny.
I just barely finished reading A War of Gifts by Orson Scott Card. It's an "enderverse" story, so it will only make sense if you've read Ender's Game and that's why I liked it. Very short, so I didn't have to focus really hard to read it. And I think I've decided that Orson Scott Card rocks socks. Still.
The books I left off in the middle that I still want to read are, Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis, At World's End by C.S. Lewis, Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, and possibly some others. So maybe now I'll be able to read those!

Packing
I spent all of Thursday night shoving as much clothes as I could into my big suitcase, because I like clothes and I wanted lots of options when I moved, and I managed to get everything I wanted to fit! It was great! So Friday morning I throw a few last things in there, manage to zip it all up, and then weigh it! Boo! It weighed 78 pounds! So I spent the next hour? pulling stuff out of it and weighing it and pulling more out and pulling more out, and finally I was like, I have taken everything out of here and it STILL weighs too much! WHAT am I supposed to do?? Anyway, it ended up working somehow and I got to put a few things back in, like my pillow and a few sweatshirts, after I was down to 47 pounds. What is the purpose of having a gigantic suitcase when you can't cram it full of stuff?? I don't know.
